10 Seconds
Once he is comfortable walking in and out of the crate, close the gate and feeding him through it. Start off only putting them inside for 10 seconds, for example 10 seconds or so, and then gradually increase the times. If the dog becomes overwhelmed, you are going too fast.
Make sure that you use control to reward your dog. If your pet successfully completes a task, then it is acceptable to reward the behavior to a calm animal. If you get excited, the dog will become that way too.
Make sure your dog is up and active. Dogs are easily become bored. A bored dog without interest in what you're doing is more difficult to train. Your dog will be more attentive when it has received enough exercise. Go for long walks or runs with your dog.
Try not to reinforce bad behavior in your dog. This means denying your dog treats for doing something you don't want it to do. For example, do not pet the dog lovingly if it jumps on you the minute you arrive home if this is something you are attempting to cure.
Do not ever use shock collar to train your dog. They may not work very well and cost more than training methods which are expensive to boot. They can cause your dog's behavior too much.
Avoid accidents if you want to housebreak your puppy. Learn to recognize what your dog does when he needs to go. Do not hesitate if you see your dog do that.Grab his leash and take your dog to a designated spot where he uses the bathroom.Reward the dog for getting your attention when he needs to go out.
You have to be consistent when training your dog's training. If there is more than one person training your dog, ensure each person uses the same techniques and commands. Your dog will learn better if he knows what to expect.
